In many of the higher income health professions, the representation of Black clinicians is half that of the comparable US population. The representation of Hispanic clinicians is one third, and the diversity of health professions training programs continues to perpetuate the problem. Early evidence also suggests diversity in health professions education can increase student cultural competence and decrease implicit bias.
